Pascal Haas - Tel-Avivis

Pascal Haas - Tel-Avivis

I had no idea what the term “Tel – Avivis” meant. In the text about his 2019 book, "Tel - Avivis" Pascal sent me he states, “Tel-Avivis” is a colloquial and affectionate term for the residents of Tel Aviv.”
He also states “for my portrait series “Tel-Avivis” I wanted to focus on a different part of Israeli society than the most commonly represented clichés of soldiers, settlers or ultra-orthodox.
I chose classic, analogue medium-format because it supports the neutral, documentary style of the project.”
Pascal’s series has been written about and exhibited widely. It was one of the 10 Foto Contempo portrait photography award winners in January 2019 and won a mention in the OPUS Fotopreis.
The project has been featured in several online and print publications: Paradise Magazine, Telavivian, Aint-Bad, Future Balance, thisaintartschool, PNPPL Zine, Der Dicke ...
The photobook was recently on show in a gallery exhibition in Montreal, curated by Archive Collective. Photographs of the series have also been exhibited in Buenos Aires, London, Luxembourg, Saarbrücken and Thionville.
Pascal was born in Luxembourg. He studied Visual Communications at the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de la Cambre in Brussels and at the Berlin University of the Arts. His work has been exhibited in Argentina, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain and Luxembourg. He lives and works in Berlin.
